next event:
... introducing
the impulse response fall season...
yes, you heard me right: impulse response is back for its
fourth season, and this one is going to be a doozy. we are still holding
our celebrated monthly events (first thursdays) at the arts center of the
capitol region in downtown troy, but we will also be branching out into other
local venues and beyond. the focus has not changed, however - music
and art that pushes boundaries, defies categorization, and questions expectations.
so, without further ado:
+ thursday
september 4
craig colorusso
(guitar) and jonah sacks (cello) w/ jason martin (reel-to-reel decks)
arts center
of the capitol region
jonah sacks, troy's newest cellist, teams up with longtime
collaborator craig colorusso for an evening of out sounds. opening the
performance on the rusty reels of steel will be the legendary jason martin
(magic recording eye, brown cuts neighbors, and so much more).
+ thursday
october 2
ulrich maiss
(cello and electronics)
arts center
of the capitol region
ulrich maiss comes to us all the way from germany, and we
are pleased as punch to have him. he will be performing a version for
amplified cello of lou reed's influential and controversial "metal machine
music" - in fact, this is the only version with reed's seal of approval,
so you know it is going to be on.
+ friday october
17
jesse stiles
(laptop) and todd reynolds (violin and electronics)
gasholder building
jesse stiles is infamous in this area for late-night laptop
chicanery, and this performance, while not quite as late, will be no exception.
joining him will be world-renowned violinist, composer, and conductor todd
reynolds, who thankfully could spare time from playing with steve reich, yo-yo
ma, ethel and other new luminaries to visit the capitol region. this
event is so huge, it could only happen in troy's historic gasholder building!
+ saturday
october 25
f:t:h fall
tour – audio / video by secret agent gel, hellbender film projekt, giles
hendrix, daniel vatsky, and cjaxx
venue tba
f:t:h is a group of sound and video artists from nyc whose
work can be described as perhaps too abstract for the clubs and not abstract
enough for the galleries. when not rocking the remote lounge in nyc,
they are starting up the f:t:h exchange program - first stop: troy.
come out for the first of many meetings between nyc's and troy's finest.
+ thursday
november 6
tomie hahn
(shakuhachi) with masayo ishigure (koto and shamisen)
arts center
of the capitol region
tomie hahn has a range of interests: new musical interfaces,
japanese dance, and monster trucks. oh, and the shakuhachi. she
will be presenting a concert of traditional pieces and improvisations with
accomplished koto and shamisen player, masayo ishigure.
+ saturday
november 15
f:t:h exchange
– audio / video by bubblyfish, joshua goldberg, cl one, and naval cassidy
venue tba
f:t:h comes back to troy for more of the same: mischief masquerading
as an audio / video extravaganza masquerading as an impulse response event.
f:t:h, i think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship...
+ thursday
december 4
shelley burgon
(harp and electronics) and the jen mesch dance conspiracy
arts center
of the capitol region
shelley burgon plays the harp in ways that it was never intended,
and this concert will be better for it. joining her will be the jen
mesch dance conspiracy, a group of dancers, musicians, video artists, and
other folks who, under the guidance of jen mesch, are turning this town on
its ear.
* doors open by
8 pm; events begin at 8:10
* admission is
$5 for the general public and $3 for students and seniors with i.d.
